Join a global collaborative connected community of solar experts and learners in a structured education platform

If you got into solar because you wanted to be part of an energy revolution and have passionately developed advanced knowledge and experience in photovoltaic design and installation, this message is for you. SolPowerPeople, Inc. has built the infrastructure for the first-ever “Massive Open Online Course” devoted exclusively to developing a global collaborative connected community of solar experts and learners in a structured education platform.

All Solar Experts – Please accept this invitation to give back to the PV community by volunteering as a #SolarMOOC Guest Lecturer, donating an hour of your time to spread the gospel of safe, reliable, and optimized PV design and installation best practices.

#SolarMOOC was originally launched March 1, 2012 as a Free NABCEP PV Installer Exam Prep Class. Within days, enrollment exceeded 250 people from 14 countries. At the live Webex sessions held on Monday and Thursday evenings, attendance ranged from about 35 to 50 participants. Views of presentations posted on slideshare and recorded video presentations enjoyed well over 6,000 views. In response to this overwhelming demand, SolPowerPeople, Inc. announced on April 12th the expanded, enhanced #SolarMOOC Advanced PV Design and Installation Free, Open Online Course. Since April 12th, enrollment has swelled to nearly 400 participants from more than 30 countries.

The structure of #SolarMOOC centers around weekly live Webex one-hour guest lecturer presentations held Thursday nights at 6:00 p.m. CST. These sessions define the topic for the week. Reading Assignments, practice PV design problems, forum discussions, and social media clusters form to create “artifacts” that are shared tagging each with the hashtag “#SolarMOOC”. Daily newsletters aggregate #SolarMOOC content and participants receive emails updating them with links to the newsletters and course announcements. Newsletters are then archived for future reference.

To continue to address the needs of our core course participants, beginning Monday, April 23, 2012, there will continue to be Monday 6:00 p.m. sessions specifically addressing the NABCEP PV Installer Job Task Analysis cycling through each of the (6) Content Domains. Sessions are always recorded and posted on the SolPowerPeople, Inc. Youtube channel. Look for the Daily Newsletter for links to these videos usually available within 24 hours of each session.

Beginning Tuesday, May 22, 2012, another cluster specifically for candidates preparing for the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Exam will commence at 6:00 p.m. CST.

Presentation topics must address elements of either the NABCEP PV Installer Job Task Analysis or the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Job Task Analysis and be at an Advanced level. #SolarMOOC provides Guest Lecturers an opportunity to showcase their knowledge in front of a worldwide audience. In addition to participating in the “Solar Spring”, guest lecturers also may reserve the last 5-10 minutes of their presentation to discuss their work, their company, projects they have done, as well as share contact information.

To register as a Guest Lecturer, here’s what to do:

  1. Visit http://solpowerpeople.com/solarmooc-guest-lecturer-registration/
  2. Follow the instructions to complete your registration

Just like the uprisings across the globe uniting people through twitter, facebook, and other social media, as well as chats, email, forums, etc. the ultimate byproduct of a MOOC is long lasting clusters of expertise united with a common goal—to spread the adoption of PV technology to meet the world’s insatiable demand for electricity. Be the change you wish to see in the PV industry. “When you share, there is more”. More solar, more jobs, more people who understand it—and demand it!
