#SolarMOOC: 23-DAY “MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE”
Orderly Chaotic Connectivism Creates Community of Collaboration
Effective immediately, candidates for the upcoming NABCEP PV Installer™ Certification Exam can register for a FREE Solar Training online class offered by SolPowerPeople, Inc. designed to help them achieve success on the exam.
A Massive open online course (MOOC) is a way of connecting distributed instructors and learners across a common topic or field of discourse. MOOCs are founded on the theory of connectivism. In recognition that those attending a MOOC are expected to make the course their own, guidance tends to focus on allowing curriculum and structure to emerge from the exchange between participants. Posting in discussions, reflecting on topical ideas, and sharing resources using a variety of social media are at the core of the MOOC learning process.
The SolPowerPeople #SolarMOOC will run for 23 days from Thursday, March 1st to Friday, March 23rd (Exam Date is March 24th). Participants follow a course syllabus defining reading assignments and practice problems covering all areas of the NABCEP PV Installer™ JTA (Job Task Analysis). Guest speakers will host a LIVE webinar at 6:00 p.m. CST Mondays and Thursdays each week during the course. These sessions will explore and explain notoriously challenging material expected to be on the exam. Recordings of the webinar sessions will be available on the course site for viewing for those who cannot attend, or want a replay. An ongoing, online forum will be provided for discussion by all #SolarMOOC participants (students and facilitators), and a daily newsletter will be published capturing all relevant articles, social media discussions, videos, external blog entries, basically, anything on the web that has been labeled with the #SolarMOOC tag.
The organized, structured course materials and events are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the value of this connected learning format. The real value comes from the crowd-sourced learning environment provided by the students as they discuss the various elements of a topic out in the open web (via Twitter, personal blogs, through video discussions, etc.). This collaborative content gets captured as feedback to the daily newsletter, then archived on a daily basis for historical reference. Ultimately, the industry connections that are made through this process become as valuable as the information gleaned from the course.
Join the #SolarMOOC now! It’s totally free and participation can be on whatever level you wish: fully engaged in discussion and doing all assignments; partially engaged (doing only assignments and no discussion), or simply as an observer, in which case you still benefit from the daily newsletter and voyeuristically from witnessing all the action. You can sign up anytime—before, during, or even after the course. All materials, forum discussions, and archived newsletters will continue to be available on the web for your reference for a period of 3 years.
This course is open to anyone interested in the NABCEP Solar PV Installer Certification regardless of whether they are eligible to sit for the test in March. If you think you will be taking the exam at some point in the future, or just want to expand you solar knowledge then click below to enroll.
